No avatars loading

Hi,

One of our users can’t load any avatars via our software. It gets as far as context = await executor.Execute(context); and then throws out an exception.

It was fine for them on July 2nd. We’ve changed nothing from our end.

I read something in another post that due to BIPA, some users can’t download avatars in certain US states. Is this the same for Michigan?

Hi, what is the fastest way to get support? On Discord, we are directed to the forums, but I haven’t received a response on here yet.

It’s quite urgent, as this particular user can’t use our app.

Hey Gareth, excuse the late reply, we’re spreaded thin with colleagues in vacation.

Due to BIPA (Biometric Information Privacy Act) regulations in Illinois, USA, we cannot currently serve users in this region. We are working on the matter, and we are aiming to have a solution for it in August, but this is a complicated matter so it might take longer than expected.

If your user is not in Illinois but is still getting the Illinois message, it could be:

  • Sometimes, ISPs assign IP locations wrongly when close to a border. You can put your user’s IP in this service to check the geolocation of your IP.
  • There is another service in between their PC and our servers that is the “real” client, that has an Illinois IP, that is getting blocked.
